I don’t usually post many articles, but I felt this needed to be shared with others.
Gearbox Software(Half-Life, Brothers in Arms, Borderlands, Duke Nukem) received an odd request one day, when a fan of the series Borderlands named Carlo asked Gearbox to do a eulogy for his friend Michael.
They both played Borderlands a lot and were very big fans. Michael died of cancer, and thought it would be a nice gesture to have the robot Claptrap do a eulogy for him.
The great team at Gearbox went above and beyond. Not only did they do the eulogy; they promised to put Michael in Borderlands 2 as an NPC.
This isn’t the first time that Gearbox has went above and beyond to honor their fans.

Destructoid alum Anthony Burch, now a writer for Gearbox, helped to make this video starringĀ Borderlands‘ Claptrap for Ben, a fan who wanted to propose to his girlfriend in an extra special way. It’s cute and it’s funny.
Oh, and she saidĀ yes, if you were curious.
Some people(who are assholes) think that these are just easy publicity stunts for Gearbox. I think they should shut the hell up, and are wrong. I’m sure that EA gets requests like this, considering how many game franchises they own. I’m sure other developers get special requests. Gearbox likes to go the extra mile, and that makes me a fan.
